But it was his mesmerizing portrayal of the computer-animated Gollum in director Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy that propelled Serkis into another realm. Besides supplying Gollum's voice, Serkis added many of the character's creepy physicalities, resulting in a three-dimensional being with complex emotions.
Reteaming with Jackson for King Kong (2005), Serkis provided the gargantuan gorilla's movements. He later turned in haunting performances in Longford (2006), nabbing BAFTA and Golden Globe nods, and the miniseries "Little Dorrit," which netted him an Emmy nomination. Serkis added a second BAFTA nod to his résumé with Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2009).
