Teachers Pilar (Carmen Elías) and Elvira (Susi Sánchez) fall in love during the final years of Francisco Franco's despotic reign, but their happiness is short-lived in this moving Spanish import. When Pilar's mother gets wind of the romance, she commits her daughter to an asylum, where she endures abuse as Elvira searches for her. Though the couple is eventually reunited, the long separation and Pilar's ordeal put their relationship to the test.
