A Story of Floating Weeds

1934 Rated NR 1hr 29m

When the leader of a small theater troupe (Takeshi Sakamoto) returns to the provincial town of his youth, he reconnects with an old flame and the now-grown son they share (who believes he's his uncle). Not surprisingly, this doesn't sit well with his current flame, the lead actress in the troupe. With its elliptical storytelling and familial focus, this early masterwork from director Yasujiro Ozu displays many of the hallmarks of his later work.
