Formerly known as Dollar Brand, pianist Abdullah Ibrahim blends traditional music from his native South Africa with jazz and classical influences to achieve his unique sound. Part documentary, part dramatization, this film captures Ibrahim's experiences in New York and South Africa. Ibrahim has played with Hugh Masekela and Duke Ellington, among others, performed at the 1965 Newport Jazz Festival and composed the soundtrack to the film Chocolat.
