Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is a horror movie that features medium-to-strong slasher violence, with dead teens, blood, and death by shotgun and knife. Teens are constantly thinking and talking about sex. One girl is shown topless, and there are scenes of oral sex and a "hand job" (with nothing graphic shown). Language is very strong, ranging from insults ("fag," "bitch") to stronger terms ("f--k," "c--t"). Drinking and pot smoking are prevalent, with occasional cocaine snorting, and use of prescription pills. The main character, Mandy Lane, generally stays away from all these things. The movie is not the bloodiest, scariest, or cleverest ever made, but it contains some compelling ideas and teen genre fans will probably want to see it.
Sexual
Content
A teen girl is shown topless. A girl teen gives a boy teen oral sex. A girl teen gives a boy a "hand job" in a car, hidden under an open road map. The movie contains all kinds of sexual references and innuendo (including jokes about giving a horse oral sex, or discussions of shaving pubic hair), all by teens.
Violence
Several teens are killed in bloody ways, with shotguns and knives. A teen's eyes are slashed. A teen dies jumping from a roof into a pool (blood is shown clouding the water). Sick cows are shown being shot in a flashback. A killing takes place in a burial pit filled with cow carcasses. Characters have a suicide pact (which is not acted upon).
Language
Language, spoken by teen characters, is frequent. Words include "f--k," "c--t," "a--hole," "fag," "bitch," "s--t," "Goddamn," "whore," "prick," "damn," and "bitch."
Social
Behavior
The idea that resisting peer pressure and remaining true to your beliefs and confident in your choices runs throughout and is reflected in the central character's choices (though the movie's ending subverts this to some degree). Generally though, teens are depicted as wild, promiscuous partiers who are often cruel to one another.
