Documentary filmmaker Ulrich Seidl examines the unique habits of several borderline-obsessive pet lovers who have lived most of their adult years as societal castoffs as a result of their often incredibly unusual home lives. Going far beyond the idea of "man's best friend," many of the adored pets featured here serve as a substitute for the emotional support their owners lack from the outside world.
