A wandering Turkish minstrel yearns to marry the daughter of a wealthy merchant, but the father shuns the young man and condemns him to roam the land for 1,001 nights. Based on a classic Mikhail Lermontov fable, this exquisitely photographed romance mixes Georgian dialogue with subtitled narration and early Russian artwork. The final feature film of acclaimed director Sergei Parajanov marks a beautiful example of late-Soviet cinema.
