The Berlin Philharmonic bids farewell to 1997 with this glorious New Year's Eve performance subtitled "Dances of Life, Love and Death." A tribute to Bizet's "Carmen," the concert begins with six selections from the opera. Additional pieces by Brahms, De Sarasate, Rachmaninoff, De Falla and Ravel, selected by conductor Claudio Abbado for their thematic links to the passion of "Carmen," round out the program.
