Bluthochzeit: Blood Wedding
Wolfgang Fortner's rendition of Federico Garcia Lorca's tragic tale of family, love and vengeance centers on a bride (Anny Schlemm) who runs off with a man from the family her husband-to-be (Johannes Grossmann) has sworn a vendetta against. Considered one of Fortner's most powerful works, this lyric tragedy -- performed live in Stuttgart, Germany in 1964 -- delves into the complex relationship between desire, ritual and violence.
