Breaking the Sound Barrier
World War II pilot Tony (Nigel Patrick) marries into the family of wealthy airplane designer John Ridgefield (Ralph Richardson), whose near-reckless pursuit of breaking the sound barrier creates an emotional barrier with his daughter Susan (Ann Todd). Featuring ace performances, vintage aviation footage and sterling direction by master auteur David Lean, the stirring drama won the 1953 BAFTA for Best Film and Best Actor for Richardson.
