All too aware that his young wife, Charulata (Madhabi Mukherjee), is spending a lot of time alone, newspaper publisher Bhupati Dutta (Shailen Mukherjee) invites his brother-in-law and wife (Syamal Ghosal and Gitali Roy) to visit them -- with disastrous consequences. The situation only worsens when Bhupati's charming cousin Amal (Soumitra Chatterjee) shows up unexpectedly and Charulata begins to develop feelings for him.
