Brilliant Russian concert pianist Tatiana Nikolayeva performs "24 Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87," composed by her longtime friend, Dmitri Shostakovich, in this carefully restored concert footage. The two met when Nikolayeva won the 1950 Bach Leipzig Piano Competition in Leipzig, Germany, and inspired Shostakovich to compose these melodic arrangements, which the young pianist revealed to the classical world during a 1952 concert in Leningrad.
