Hailed as the first (and only) film about gay life produced in communist East Germany, Coming Out debuted the night the Berlin Wall crumbled. Since childhood, Philipp (Matthias Freihof) has masked his attraction to men. Determined to live a "normal" life, he moves in with fellow teacher Tanja (Dagmar Manzel) but engages in a secret affair with Matthias (Dirk Kummer). When Tanja turns up pregnant, Philipp finds himself on the horns of a dilemma.
