Genie (Kristy Wu), a Chinese American, was raised by her grandmother when her own mother, Kim (Bai Ling), abandoned her after birth. Now an adult, the usually distant Genie finally opens her heart to the possibilities of love when she meets Michael (Treach), an African-American DJ. But when her grandmother expresses disapproval of her relationship and Kim suddenly shows up on the scene, Genie must decide which ties are most important to her.
