For the Children
Mourning the deaths of her husband and son, Chinese peasant Zhang Meili decides to turn her pain into something positive, creating a much needed school in the desert. When sophisticated Beijing teacher Xia Yu comes to pitch in, the two initially clash, but as they work together to help the children, they develop an unlikely bond. Meanwhile, Xia's husband entreats her to return to the city, and Zhang becomes secretly involved with a local man.
