With his deceased former editor as his projectionist, dying filmmaker Donald Baines (Kirk Douglas) spends a fantastical night watching movies that depict various stages in his estranged son's life. Haunted by his father's abandonment, Donald's son Christopher (Michael A. Goorjian) goes through life crippled with self-doubt.
