After seeing a star and believing it to be a sign that mankind's savior has arrived on earth, astronomer and priest Mel (Alberto Fumagalli) sets out with fellow believers to follow the star, which leads them to confront challenges and encounter miracles. Working with nonprofessional actors, director Ermanno Olmi faithfully re-creates the biblical tale of the Magi discovering the newborn baby Jesus.
