Lea (Lenka Vlasakova) has learned to deal with regular abuse from her father, but a horrific event involving her mother's death shakes her so severely, she can no longer speak. Lea turns to poetry as her only communication with her new foster parents, who turn her over at age 21 to a man named Strehlow (Christian Redl) for marriage. The man beats Lea repeatedly, but when he finds her poetry one day, his view of her is changed forever.
