Frank Borzage directs this early talkie adapted from Ferenc Molnár's 1909 stage play and starring Charles Farrell as Liliom, a carousel operator who marries a servant girl, prompting him to rob a bank to support his new family. After the robbery goes awry, Liliom takes his own life, but is then given a chance at 10 more years of life -- with the caveat that his wife and young child will never know his true identity.
