Dustin Hoffman stars as a sophisticated gambler and street-smart ex-con who involves his longtime chauffeur and enforcer, Gus, in a complicated scheme involving a horse-racing track. As they work their plan, they become entangled with a variety of shady horse trainers, chronic gamblers and other characters who frequent the track.
