Mati and her daughter, Ndye, survive in the city of Dakar, Senegal, by selling produce from a cart. Mati has long sworn off men after divorcing her abusive husband, but her resolve is tested when she meets a charming policeman, Naago. Soon, however, Mati's rosy image of Naago changes due to his womanizing and corruption. Worse yet, when Naago is found dead outside Mati's home, she's the immediate and obvious suspect in the murder.
