Conductor Bernard Haitink has been hailed as one of the pre-eminent interpreters of Austrian composer Gustav Mahler's works. In the early 1990s, he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra through a Mahler cycle. This program captures part of that cycle: the pastoral Fourth Symphony and the haunting yet joyful Seventh Symphony. Famed multiple Grammy Award-winning soprano Sylvia McNair sings the stirring final movement of the Fourth Symphony.
