Yugoslavian auteur Dusan Makavejev's unique take on life in a communist state -- one that mixes absurdity with despair -- is on full display in this tale about the romance between a factory engineer and a pretty, younger hair stylist. Although the grim industrial town is shot in realistic fashion, the lives being led there come off as anything but, with most of the residents more than slightly daffy, thanks to the strains of life under Tito.
