Allison Dubois (Patricia Arquette) talks to the dead, peers into the future, and reads minds -- gifts that sometimes frighten even her. With her innate talents, she helps Phoenix D.A. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) unearth the tragic truths that victims have taken to their graves. Summary of Season 1 (2005) - 5 discs

In the first season of this hit series based on a true story, we meet Allison Dubois (Patricia Arquette, in an Emmy-winning role), a housewife with an extraordinary "gift" -- the ability to see and hear dead people. Her rocket-scientist husband, Joe (Jake Weber), is initially skeptical, but after a time, he becomes a believer as Allison assists police departments in solving crimes across the country.

Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that this show isn't meant for kids. Allison's communication with the dead can be unsettling and scary. Every episode focuses on some sort of violent crime, including rape and murder. The show is also emotionally intense, as Allison must stop criminals from hurting their victims before it's too late. Often Allison's visions and dreams put her in uncomfortable positions, such as finding out others' dark secrets. There's occasional strong language.
