It's the 1950s, and Melinda's (Jennifer Olivares) world is a small, sheltered one. Her strict, religious parents forbid her from celebrating birthdays or holidays. But she begins to experience life through some new friends, including a waitress -- who gives Melinda her first taste of the blues and an exciting drink called Coca-Cola -- and a disgraced writer. Things are looking up until tragedy strikes, forcing Melinda to venture out on her own.
