Nikolaus Harnoncourt: Monteverdi: L'Orfeo
One of the earliest known operas, "L'Orfeo" recounts the Greek myth of Orpheus, who travels to the underworld in hopes of bringing back his lost love, Euridice. Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducts the Monteverdi Ensemble of the Zürich Opera House in this 1978 production of the classic work, directed by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and starring Philippe Huttenlocher. Close attention to period detail in costuming and sets brings the story vividly to life.
