Teenaged dreamer Charles Cummings (Jon Cryer) yearns to become a photographer. When he falls for older rock 'n' roller Laura (Demi Moore), an obsessive Charles spends his life savings on an advertising campaign that puts Laura's face atop every cab in San Francisco. Charles's brainstorm pays off with a record contract for Laura, but she still doesn't see him as an object of affection. Co-stars Tim Robbins and Jennifer Tilly.
