Part documentary, part feature, director Andrey Iskanov's graphic shocker chronicles the horrors committed by the Japanese army's Unit 731, which used biological and chemical weapons on Russian and Chinese prisoners during the 1930s and '40s. The film blends computer-generated replications of grisly experiments with documentary-style segments and the eyewitness account of military translator and ex-doctor Anatoly Protasov.
