Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that this retelling of the biblical parable "The Prodigal Son" includes some scenes of domestic violence, as well as alcohol and drug (marijuana) use. But the movie's ultimate story of redemption, as well as the importance of dedication, perserverance, and family come through loud and clear.

Sexual Content

While no explicit sexual behavior is shown, characters leave and enter hotel rooms together quite often. Over dinner, characters discuss foreplay and if preacher's kids are as "freaky" as people say. Later in the film, one of the characters uses a home pregnancy test and believes she is pregnant.

Violence

A man punches and slaps a woman in the face, and the woman appears with black eyes and bruises on her face.

Language

Infrequent profanity, such as "ass,"; "f--k" is said once.

Social Behavior

Angie leaves home, but learns the values taught to her by her pastor father and by her church community have more lasting value than the transitory glamour presented by flash and attention. She also learns and experiences firsthand the amount of work and dedication it requires to attain success as a performer.

Consumerism

Not applicable

Drugs / Tobacco / Alcohol

One character drinks and smokes marijuana, and Angela eventually follows suit.
