Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that Riddick is the third movie in the Vin Diesel sci-fi/action series that began with Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. There's strong sci-fi violence, with lots of fighting, shooting, stabbing, blood, and gore, including alien guts and a scene in which a blade goes through a man's head, and the top portion of his skull slides off. Human characters die, and a lovable alien dog is shot and killed. This installment amps up the sexual content, too; there's toplessness and full-frontal female nudity, as well as strong sexual innuendo. Language includes several uses of "f--k" and "s--t," as well as other words. Minor drinking and smoking are quickly shown in some scenes. It's been a long time since the last Riddick movie, so many teens may not be familiar with the franchise, but you don't have to have seen the previous movies to understand what's going on.

Sexual Content

In a flashback to Riddick's days as a ruler, four naked women are shown on his bed while he watches from a chair. One is full frontally naked for several seconds. A second woman is shown showering; one breast is visible. In a later shot, another breast is partially visible in a mirror's reflection. This character and Riddick exchange some strong sexual innuendo; she's a lesbian, but Riddick is so powerful that she's willing to "switch" for him. Riddick climbs a mountain with no clothes on (no graphic nudity).

Violence

Very strong sci-fi and fantasy violence, with lots of blood and death. Several human characters die. A blade goes through a man's head, and the top portion of his skull slides off, revealing some teeth, a tongue, and lots of gore. Many characters are stabbed or shot -- and, in one case, gored to death by a steel trap. An alien dog is shot and dies. An innocent woman is shot and killed. Lots of fighting. Lots of alien creatures die, with plenty of alien blood and guts shown. The main character sets his own broken leg and cauterizes a huge, gaping wound in his stomach.

Language

Many uses of "f--k" (in various permutations) and "s--t," as well as "bitch," "d--k," "whore," "damn," "ass," "balls," "retard," "crap," "goddamn," and "a--hole," as well as the insult "jamoke."

Social Behavior

Though Riddick is still OK with killing anyone and everyone in order to get what he wants, he does get the humans to work together to survive a much greater threat.

Consumerism

Not applicable

Drugs / Tobacco / Alcohol

Riddick is seen swigging from a bottle of something during a flashback; a secondary character smokes.
