Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that Search Party is about adult men (T.J. Miller, Thomas Middleditch, and Adam Pally) behaving like extremely immature, bad boys. They smoke pot, do cocaine, and pick up women in bars -- all of which gets them into trouble of some kind. Even when they act out of seemingly noble motives -- as when they rescue a carjacked friend who's stranded, naked, in Mexico -- their utter obliviousness and stupidity makes this over-the-top comedy difficult to watch. Some scenes are violent, with guns, peril, fighting, and flaming arrows; there's also full-frontal male nudity, tons of aggressive ogling, the aforementioned drug use (as well as pills and drinking), and extremely salty language ("f--k," "s--t," "bitch, "p---y," and much more).
Sexual
Content
A carjacked man is stripped of his clothes and spends most of the rest of the movie naked -- including full-frontal nudity. Aggressive ogling of women. References to the allure of watching lesbian sex. A woman in bra and underpants straddles a man in underwear on a hotel room bed. Innuendo/crude sex jokes and references.
Violence
A man is carjacked. A woman prepares to remove the kidney of a man who's been given a paralytic drug. Cocaine dealers shoot and chase the protagonists. The main characters get into a physical fight with an 11-year-old and his moms. A man trying to steal kidneys chases an escaped victim, shooting at him with burning arrows from a crossbow. A car catches fire, causing it to crash and explode. A man is shot in the ear. Some blood is seen. A paralyzed man falls into a swimming pool but is rescued.
Language
Tons of extremely strong language, including "f--k," "s--t," "bitch," "a--hole," "d--k," "wiener," "dildo," "p---y," "vagina," "come," and more.
Social
Behavior
In theory, there's an underlying theme of friendship and loyalty, but viewers are more likely to remember lines/messages such as "Weed is truth" and "Everybody smokes weed."
Consumerism
Not applicable
Drugs / Tobacco /
Alcohol
Main characters smoke pot and talk about being and getting high. One character jumps into a truck to escape, not knowing it's filled with cocaine; his body is covered in fine white powder -- he licks it, inhales it off himself, and gets high, and later a police officer licks some off him and claims to be very high. Adults drink alcohol. A man takes the sleeping medication Ambien and passes out. A woman slips a tranquilizer into a man's drink; he loses consciousness.
