Henry Fonda introduces this gritty character study adapted from a classic story by Ernest Hemingway. After serving his country in World War I, returning veteran Harold Krebs (Richard Backus) finds himself an outsider unable to adjust to life in his Kansas hometown. The supporting cast includes Nancy Marchand as Harold's caring but imperceptive mother, who pushes her alienated son to rejoin the community.
