German director F.W. Murnau contemporizes his version of Molière's classic play by setting the exploration of morality and hypocrisy amid a plot by a housekeeper (Rosa Valetti) to poison her employer (Hermann Picha) and take control of his estate and fortune. But his grandson (André Mattoni) soon becomes wise to her scheme and shows his grandfather a film of Molière's "Tartuffe" to expose her plan.
