The Beggar's Opera
The Who's Roger Daltrey stars in this British television adaptation of John Gay's revolutionary, 18th century ballad opera. Lust, avarice and corruption abound as Peachum (Stratford Johns), the king of beggars, becomes angry when he learns his daughter has fallen in love with highwayman Macheath (Daltrey). Bob Hoskins plays a crooked constable in this stylish production featuring fast-paced scenes, sparkling dialogue and imaginative music.
