Summary of Season 1 (2000) - 2 discs

If you think child rearing in the 21st century is tough, try raising your kids in outer space. Part of the Cartoon Network's popular Adult Swim series, "The Brak Show" follows the wacky adventures of space-boy Brak and his preying mantis pal, Zorak. In volume 1, Brak and Zorak borrow next-door neighbor Mr. Thundercleese's time machine, and Brak's dad gets in on the action when father and son must planet-hop to save Mom from a lovelorn alien.

Common Sense Note

Parents need to know that this bizarre cartoon is meant for teens and adults. Though most of its humor is silly and nonsensical humor, themes surrounding domestic life -- including male-female gender dynamics and parent-child relationships -- might be confusing to younger viewers. The mother and father argue frequently, and the father regularly spouts chauvinistic vitriol, which most older teens will understand to be satirical. References to violence, sex, and alcohol occasionally come into play, but overall this is one of the tamer Adult Swim shows.

Sexual Content

Thinly veiled sexual themes, such as an alien kidnapping Mom to turn her into his "ideal woman."

Occasional jokes about death and violence, but they're very cartoonish. Frequent verbal sparring between mother and father.

Only "hell" and "damn."

Social Behavior

The characters are chauvinistic and irresponsible, but it's obviously satirical.

Not applicable

Drugs / Tobacco / Alcohol

Occasional references to beer. One character invents a beer hat.
