Known for his spot-on satirical depictions of English society, Hogarth was arguably one of Britain's first great master painters, producing ambitious and memorable works such as &NFi;A Rake's Progress&NFi_; (1735) and the six-picture series &NFi;Marriage à-la-Mode&NFi_; (1743-45).
