Having barely escaped with their lives when a contagion was unleashed on Eros at the end of last season, Det. Joe Miller and ship's officer Jim Holden face more trouble as tensions ratchet up between Earth and Mars.

As the war between Earth and Mars ignites across the solar system, the terrifying next phase in the evolution of the protomolecule threatens the very existence of humanity. Caught in the middle, the Rocinante crew struggles to deal with tensions amongst themselves, while striving to survive and aid those in peril.

With the Ring Gates now open to thousands of new planets, a blood-soaked gold rush begins, igniting new conflicts between Earth, Mars and the Belt. Meanwhile, on one unexplored planet, the Rocinante crew gets caught in a violent clash between an Earth mining corporation and desperate Belter settlers as deadly new threats from the protomolecule emerge.
