In this acclaimed film version of Rimsky-Korsakov's classic opera, Tsar Ivan the Terrible (Pyotr Glebov) selects the young daughter of a merchant (Otar Koberidze; vocals by Yevgeni Kibkalo) as his bride, despite the girl's unwillingness to marry. Yevgeni Svetlanov conducts the Bolshoi Opera and Theatre, and Vladimir Gorikker directs. Natalya Rudnaya (with vocals by Larisa Avdeyeva) co-stars.
