In director Tony Palmer's musical biopic, aging German composer George Frideric Handel (Trevor Howard) recalls his remarkable life and musical career. The film showcases many of Handel's works performed by world-class singers and musicians. Conducted by Sir Charles Mackerras, the film also features pieces from "The Messiah," "Water Music," "Music for the Royal Fireworks," "Organ Concerto op. 7" and "Keyboard Suite no. 7."
