During the Cold War, American pianist Van Cliburn stunned the world by winning the International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow. In this program, Cliburn plays Beethoven's Piano Concerto no. 5 and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto no. 1. Recorded in Moscow during a return visit to the Soviet Union in 1962, the memorable performance also includes encores of Chopin's Fantasy in F Minor and Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody."
