Union officer Kerry Bradford (Errol Flynn) escapes from a Confederate prison and races to intercept $5 million in gold destined for Confederate coffers. A Confederate sympathizer (Randolph Scott) and a Mexican bandit (Humphrey Bogart), each with their own stake in the loot, stand in his way. To complicate the pursuit, sexy chanteuse and spy Julia Hayne (Miriam Hopkins) is playing each of the men against the other.
