Fed up with her unstable mother and her mother's abusive boyfriend, teenage Zoe (Vanessa Zima) leaves behind her bland Midwestern suburb and heads out West with two of her friends (Victoria Davis and Stephi Lineburg), hoping to get in touch with her Cherokee roots in New Mexico. Along the way, Zoe encounters a soul mate of sorts in Cecilia (Jenny Seagrove), a British woman who's mourning the death of her mother.
