Bruce Neibaur's touching film follows Ira (Kate Maberly) and Oscar (Jonathan Hernandez), two children who transcend racial and economic barriers to become friends. Eleven-year-old Ira's family runs a beet farm, and her parents have recruited migrants to work the land. When she befriends Oscar, a worker's son, she's exposed to the prejudice that runs through her local town. Yet, Ira perseveres, realizing the importance of true friendship.
