Bendt Rothe in Gertrud

1964 NR

Bored in her marriage to lawyer-politician Gustav Kanning (Bendt Rothe), the middle-aged Gertrud (Nina Pens Rode) -- once a promising opera singer -- searches for romance in affairs with a young, bohemian composer (Baard Owe) and an old flame (Ebbe Rode). Composed of only 89 shots, this austere Danish drama marks the final film from master director Carl Theodor Dreyer, who won the FIPRESCI Prize at the Venice Film Festival for this compelling drama.
