Jack McGurn (Dennis Quaid) and his Japanese wife struggle with racial prejudice in this romantic drama set in the 1930s. After moving to Los Angeles, the ex-union organizer falls for the pretty daughter, Lily (Tamlyn Tomita), of his boss, Hiroshi Kawamura (Sab Shimono). When Lily's dad disapproves, the couple flees to Seattle, where mixed-race marriages are legal. When World War II begins, Jack and Lily's world turns upside down.
