Bernstein: Gershwin: An American in Paris / Ives: Symphony No. 2

1987 NR

Leonard Bernstein conducts the New York Philharmonic in two of composer George Gershwin's most popular works, "An American in Paris" and "Rhapsody in Blue." In addition, Bernstein presents Charles Ives's Symphony no. 2 and "The Unanswered Question." While Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" mixes elements of classical and jazz music, "An American in Paris" is a tone poem meant to evoke the sights of and feelings inspired by the French capital.
