French writer-director Robert Guediguian brings the bustling landscape of modern Marseilles to startling life while introducing a revolving cast of characters: a struggling fish-monger and her heroin-addicted daughter; a dock worker turned taxi driver; a quiet bar owner; and two opposites who form an unlikely relationship. By the time the film builds to its tragic conclusion, each individual is forced to confront his or her current situation.
