A versatile stage and screen actor often linked with the work of playwright David Mamet, Chicago native Joe Mantegna was born Nov. 13, 1947, and honed his skills in theater. Debuting professionally in a national tour of the musical "Hair" (1969), he eventually scored a Tony Award for his starring role in Mamet's "Glengarry Glen Ross" (1984).

Mantegna's movie career includes comedic and dramatic roles in such films as The Money Pit (1986), The Godfather: Part III (1990), Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993) and Celebrity (1998). But his small-screen work has garnered him the most acclaim -- and a trio of Emmy nods for impressive turns in the miniseries The Last Don (1997) and the made-for-cable entries The Rat Pack (1998) and The Starter Wife (2007).

Ardent fans of "The Simpsons" may also recognize Mantegna as the voice of Springfield mob boss "Fat" Tony D'Amico.
