Writer-director Gregg Araki's thought-provoking drama centers on six Los Angeles gay and lesbian youths and the emotional struggles and isolation they confront regularly in the form of gay bashing, homophobia and parents' rejection. As they discuss their trials and tribulations, the teens seem completely disengaged from the world -- and for one of them (James Duval), suicide begins to look like an attractive escape valve.
