Born Dec. 27, 1974, in Tokyo, Masi Oka moved to the United States at age 6 and spent the bulk of his childhood in Los Angeles. He completed an eclectic course load at Rhode Island's Brown University, resulting in bachelor's degrees in computer science and mathematics, plus a minor in theatre arts.

After college, Oka landed his first job creating special effects at director George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic company and performed with improv groups such as the Groundlings and Second City before being cast in a recurring role on "Scrubs" (2002-04). But it was the actor's portrayal of Hiro Nakamura on the hit drama "Heroes" that brought him commercial and critical success, earning him Emmy and Golden Globe nods in 2007, along with legions of devoted fans.

Oka's big-screen credits include Along Came Polly (2004) and Quebec (2007).
